Hidden within the bustling city of Berlin, the Alfried-Krupp-Haus Berlin whispers tales of a complex past. The Alfried-Krupp-Haus Berlin stands on Binger Straße 40 in the Wilmersdorf district. Originally known as Haus Euler, it was built in 1926-27 for the merchant Ernst Euler, designed by the architect Adolph Mattheus. A unique feature for its time was the integration of a garage within the house. Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach, the steel magnate, acquired the villa in 1937. In 1999, the Krupp firm sold the property to the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung. The Alfried-Krupp-Haus Berlin served a variety of purposes over the years. The foundation loaned it rent-free to the Federal Association of German Foundations until 2004. Since early 2006, the Free University of Berlin has utilized the house, hosting the Collaborative Research Center “Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood: New Modes of Governance?”. The Alfried-Krupp-Haus Berlin reflects the changing times and its adaptation to various needs. It has transitioned from a private residence to a space for academic research, echoing the broader historical shifts in the surrounding city.
