The Alevitische Gemeinde Augsburg e.V., nestled on Bozener Straße 4a, isn’t just a building. It’s a vibrant hub, a testament to the dedication of the Alevi community in Augsburg. In 1993, a small group of just 35 Alevis came together with a dream. They envisioned a place where Alevis in Augsburg and the surrounding areas could connect, worship, and celebrate their culture. That dream took root and blossomed into the Alevitische Gemeinde Augsburg e.V. The Alevitische Gemeinde Augsburg e.V. isn’t exclusive. Its doors are open to everyone, regardless of faith or background. Now boasting 500 members and serving a community of around 2,500, the Alevitische Gemeinde Augsburg e.V. has far surpassed its humble beginnings. This bustling center offers a wide array of activities, from lectures and seminars to cultural and prayer evenings. These events aim to preserve and share the Alevi faith and teachings with a wider audience. The Gemeinde also champions integration, offering courses supported by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. They provide support for families with children’s education and foster understanding through interfaith events. They collaborate with organizations like FILL “Forum for Intercultural Life and Learning”, the Foreigners’ Advisory Council of the Christian-Islamic Working Group, and the Round Table of Religions. The building itself is a marvel. Constructed on a 5000 m² plot, the Gemeindehaus boasts a usable area of 3200 m². The groundbreaking ceremony took place in October 1999, and the building was completed just a year later, in October 2000. The community poured their hearts and souls into the construction. Members volunteered their time and skills, from preparing meals for the workers to assisting the skilled tradesmen. The Alevitische Gemeinde Augsburg e.V. stands as the largest and most beautiful Alevi community center in all of Europe. Inside, you’ll find a variety of spaces. The second floor houses the prayer hall, or Cem Evi, where regular services are held. Men, women, and children sit together, united in prayer with the prayer leader and Zakiren, the Alevi bards. The ground floor boasts a grand hall with a capacity of 800 guests. This space hosts cultural events, concerts, wedding celebrations, and other festivities. A large stage accommodates up to 30 performers, and a fully equipped kitchen caters to any culinary needs. This hall is available for rent, both for large events and smaller gatherings, like exams, conferences, and seminars. Smaller rooms are available for youth groups, women’s groups, administrative offices, and guest rooms for visiting musicians, prayer leaders, and writers. The Alevitische Gemeinde Augsburg e.V. is more than just bricks and mortar. It’s a living embodiment of the Alevi spirit, a place where tradition meets modernity, and community thrives.
