In 1977, Aldine Library opened its doors. Aldine was a small community then. The Aldine Library has grown alongside the community. It serves a diverse and changing population. The Aldine Library underwent a major renovation in 2001. The renovation more than doubled its size. It allowed the library to expand its resources and programs. The Aldine Library offers computers, internet access, and WiFi. It also provides learning opportunities. These include English Language Acquisition and citizenship classes. The Aldine Library continues to be a vital resource. It offers access to information, books, movies, computers, and educational programs. A fascinating piece of Aldine Library’s history involves Hurricane Alicia. In 1983, the hurricane caused extensive damage. The library had to close for repairs. It reopened in 1984. Just a couple of years later, the Aldine Library hosted a special event. Beloved author Judy Blume visited the branch in 1986. She had won the Children’s Choice award that year. The library also boasts some beautiful artwork. A community mosaic was commissioned in 2002. It features work by Reginald Adams and students from Stovall Middle School. More recently, in 2019, a new mural was unveiled in the children’s area. It was created by Houston artist Wiley Robinson. The Aldine Library truly represents the growth and spirit of the community.
