The roar of the crowd still echoes in my ears. Al-Sa’ada Stadium. That’s what we’re standing in front of. It’s more than just a stadium. It’s a testament to Oman’s passion for football.

Al-Sa’ada Stadium in Salalah isn’t just a place for matches. It’s a hub of sporting activity. This government-owned stadium is part of a larger complex. There’s a field hockey pitch a tennis court even an Olympic-size swimming pool. Imagine the energy. All this is within easy reach.

Construction began in 2006. The stadium opened in July 2009. It was initially designed to hold 12000 people. Renovations in 2010 changed that. It became an all-seater stadium. The capacity dropped to around 8000 to 9000. But the plans are ambitious. They aim to increase the capacity to almost 20000.

The journey to its current state has been tumultuous. Newspaper articles detail the controversy. Construction overruns were a major issue. The lack of seating was a sore point. The final result disappointed many. Even a parking lot was missing. The criticism wasn’t confined to local newspapers. Leading Arab football forums echoed the discontent. The lack of live match feeds and a match clock drew further criticism.

Despite these challenges Al-Sa’ada Stadium stands proudly. It’s home to two major Salalah clubs Dhofar and Al-Nasr. It also hosts second division teams and those from Mirbat. It even hosted an international friendly between Saudi Arabia and Oman in 2009. That match remains a highlight for many.

Al-Sa’ada Stadium. Its location near the Dhofar University’s new campus adds another layer to its significance. It’s a place of dreams aspirations and unforgettable moments. It’s a vital part of Salalah’s sporting landscape. A place where the passion of the fans is truly palpable. A place that continues its evolution its story far from over.
