Picture this. You are standing before Al-Kuwaiti in Mecca. A simple structure perhaps. Yet its unassuming exterior belies a rich history. For centuries Al-Kuwaiti has served as a vital waypoint. A resting place for pilgrims traveling from Kuwait to the holy cities.

Al-Kuwaiti’s significance lies not in grandeur but in its role within the larger narrative of the Hajj. Imagine the long arduous journeys undertaken by Kuwaiti pilgrims before the mid-1920s. Hundreds of camels carrying hundreds of people braved a three-month odyssey. Many Kuwaiti expeditions started their pilgrimage in Medina. Then they continued to Mecca. Others made the direct journey. The route was challenging passing through Al-Hafar Al-Nasafa Rataouiya and Umm Al-Jumajem. These were critical stops offering respite and resources along the way.

Al-Kuwaiti served as one such crucial rest stop. A place for pilgrims to gather to share meals and stories. A space to recover before setting off on the next grueling leg of the journey. The caravans would pause here to let the camels graze near precious water wells. Each traveler paid 150 rupees to the expedition owner. This covered the camel rental and the guides. Food was not included.

The journey was meticulously timed. Departures happened after dawn prayer and continued until midday. The day concluded with Maghreb prayer. Then the pilgrims set up camp. Families prepared food before the next day’s dawn departure. Some pilgrims stayed in tents in Mecca and Medina. Wealthier travelers opted for private pilgrim houses. These cost between 50 and 80 riyals for the whole Hajj season.

This is the unspoken story of Al-Kuwaiti. A simple resting place. A vital piece of the pilgrimage puzzle. A testament to faith perseverance and the enduring spirit of those who journeyed to Mecca. A story whispered on the desert winds carried on the backs of camels and etched in the hearts of pilgrims for generations. Al-Kuwaiti may be small. Yet its contribution to the Hajj journey is immense. It is a place where history faith and resilience converge.
