What if education could empower you not just with knowledge, but with the skills to build your own future? Right here, at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, that “what if” becomes a reality. AAMUSTED, as it’s commonly known, isn’t just another university. It’s a launchpad for innovation and entrepreneurship. Established quite recently, in 2020 by Act 1026 of the Parliament of Ghana, AAMUSTED has a clear mission. This mission is to be the leading institution for higher technical, vocational, and entrepreneurial education in Ghana. The university’s name honors Akenten Appiah-Menka, a prominent Ghanaian lawyer, politician, and businessman. His legacy of leadership and entrepreneurial spirit is woven into the fabric of AAMUSTED. This university emerged from the union of two existing institutions: the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK), and the College of Agriculture Education, Asante-Mampong (CAGRIC). These were formerly campuses of the University College of Education, Winneba. Imagine the wealth of experience and expertise brought together under one roof at Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development. AAMUSTED has two vibrant campuses. The main campus is located in Tanoso, Kumasi, and houses five faculties with twelve departments. The second campus is situated in Asante-Mampong, about 63 kilometers from Kumasi. This campus boasts four faculties and eleven departments. AAMUSTED offers a wide array of programs designed to equip students with practical skills and an entrepreneurial mindset. From applied sciences and mathematics education to business, technical, and vocational education, AAMUSTED covers a lot of ground. At Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, the focus is not just on theory. It is about applying knowledge to real-world situations and fostering a spirit of innovation. Professor Frederick Kwaku Sarfo, the university’s first Vice-Chancellor, leads this charge into a future powered by skilled and entrepreneurial graduates. He ensures AAMUSTED continues to live up to its name and mission.
