Established on February 26 2005 the Akademische Turnverbindung Greifswald stands proudly in Bahnhofstrasse 19. Its striking white black blue and white flag contrasts beautifully against the red facade. This is more than just a building. It’s a testament to history and brotherhood.
Originally constructed in 1888 this impressive building served as the residence of a Swedish merchant. Its nearly 700 square meters of living space and 1000 square meters of land proved ideal for its transformation into a fraternity house. The ground floor a true heart of the ATV Greifswald houses a spacious 110-square-meter kneipsaal or common room. A smaller 30-square-meter room serves as a comfortable gathering place. The ornate stucco work and embellishments on the front are protected as a historical landmark. They represent one of the most beautiful facades on the street.
The house comprises a three-story main building and a two-story extension added in 1912. Despite its central location a tranquil courtyard offers a welcome retreat. Members can enjoy barbecues and bask in the afternoon and evening sun. The medieval ramparts and the city moat are just beyond the property. A drawbridge even connects the grounds to the street.
Following extensive renovations the ATV Greifswald now boasts 19 rooms and a 58-square-meter apartment. The rooms are divided into three large shared apartments each with six to seven rooms. Every room ranges from 15 to 35 square meters. Modern amenities such as carpeting laminate or parquet flooring telephones and DSL flat rates are provided.
The 52-square-meter Altherrenzimmer or old boys room awaits renovation. It will become a library and accommodation for alumni and guests. The connection level is undergoing final restoration. Its protected doors stucco elements and original parquet flooring create a timeless atmosphere. The aim is to complete the renovation by the end of the next semester.
