Nestled on the Barnim Plateau Ahrensfelde boasts a history stretching back to 1375. Its first mention in Emperor Charles IV’s Landbuch as Arnsfelt hints at a rich past. Ahrensfelde wasn’t always the municipality we see today. It began as a small village. It grew significantly through mergers. In 2003 Ahrensfelde proper merged with Blumberg Eiche Lindenberg and Mehrow. This created the Ahrensfelde we know. Blumberg a village older than Ahrensfelde even predates the 1375 mention. It was first recorded in 1253 as Blumenberch. Blumberg’s manor once belonged to the Bishops of Brandenburg. Later it became home to the poet Friedrich von Canitz. The castle was later redesigned by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Peter Joseph Lenné designed its park. Sadly the Red Army destroyed Blumberg Castle in the 1945 Battle of Berlin.
