Lost in time is a fragment of a great medieval forest known as the Ahltener Wald. This forest stands as a testament to centuries of history. Today we will uncover the secrets held within the Ahltener Wald.

The Ahltener Wald is located in Ahlten. Ahlten is a district of the town of Lehrte in the Hanover region. The forest is located north of the A2. Parts of it belong to the Altwarmbuchener Moor-Ahltener Wald landscape protection area. The A2 and A7 highways cut through the Wald.

The Ahltener Wald is one of the remnants of the large medieval North Forest. The wooded area covers about 5.4 square kilometers. The forest’s history stretches back much further than the Middle Ages. Archaeological finds near the Ahltener Wald date back to 500 BC.

During the construction of the A7 in the 1970s, the remains of a castle called Olde Burg were destroyed. It was located in the Ahltener Wald. The purpose and date of construction are unknown.

A Kiesteich was excavated during the construction of the A2 in the 1930s. It is in the forest area and is called Blauer See. Today, it covers about 9 hectares. An angling club owns most of it and uses it for its purposes. Many people come here to cool off in the summer. Next to the Blauer See is another lake. It is about 1.5 hectares in size. It is privately owned. This lake is known as the Mullersee.

The Ahltener Wald offers a peaceful retreat. It is a reminder of the past. It is a place where you can reflect on the passage of time. Take a moment to appreciate the Ahltener Wald.
