Here we stand before Agrasen ki Baoli a 60-meter long 15-meter wide stepwell. It’s a protected monument in New Delhi near Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar. This ancient structure is a mystery. However some historians believe the Agarwal community rebuilt Agrasen ki Baoli in the 14th century. This was during the Tughlaq dynasty. The Agarwals were descendants of King Agrasen. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) restored Agrasen ki Baoli in the 20th century. The ASI declared it a protected monument in 1958. They cleaned it up and removed encroachments. They also added lighting and signage. Today Agrasen ki Baoli is a popular tourist spot. It’s a testament to ancient Indian architecture. Its 103 steps lead to a water reservoir.
