What if these walls could talk? They would tell tales of diligence, precision, truth-seeking, and creativity at the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University.
Here we stand before a beacon of education in Guangzhou. This is no ordinary high school. The Affiliated High School of South China Normal University is a key provincial institution. It operates directly under the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and SCNU.
Locally it is known as Hua Shi Fu Zhong or HSFZ. This school’s history stretches back to 1888. Dr. Andrew Patton Happer founded the Christian College in China. This initial spark ignited a long legacy of learning.
Over the years, this institution has transformed. It has been renamed and merged several times. In 1952, a significant merger occurred. Four high schools combined to form the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University as we know it today.
These were the Affiliated High Schools of Sun Yat-Sen University, Lingnan University, South China Associated University and Guangdong College of Arts & Science. From 1960 to 1961 it was even named the Affiliated High School of Guangdong College of Science. It temporarily became No. 61 Middle School of Guangzhou during the Cultural Revolution. Finally in 1982, it regained its current name.
The Affiliated High School of South China Normal University has a motto. It encourages students to be diligent, precise, truth-seeking, and creative. These values are evident in the school’s many achievements.
HSFZ consistently ranks among the top schools in China. A 2016 ranking placed it 21st among Chinese high schools. This ranking was based on the number of students admitted to top American universities.
The main campus is located in Tianhe District. It is a provincial public school. There are also three other campuses that function as private schools. These are in Guangzhou, Foshan and Shanwei.
The Affiliated High School of South China Normal University has achieved many distinctions. It was one of the first schools designated as “the A-Class School” by the Provincial Education Bureau.
The school was honored as “a pioneering flag” in Guangdong during the 1950s and 1960s. This was in the field of regular education. It has also received “School of National Distinction” awards. These awards recognized its animated campus life and success in implementing physical education and healthcare regulations.
Academically, the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University excels. Over 98% of graduates are accepted into colleges or universities. Many students have been selected for national training courses. They participate in International Olympiads. HSFZ students have won numerous medals in these competitions.
Admissions to HSFZ are highly competitive. The enrollment cutoff is among the highest in Guangzhou. The school’s Creative Class and Guangdong Olympic School admit students from all over Guangdong Province.
As we stand here, we recognize the Affiliated High School of South China Normal University. It is more than just a school. It is a place where bright minds converge. It is a place where futures are shaped and dreams take flight. The Affiliated High School of South China Normal University truly embodies its motto. It fosters diligence, precision, truth-seeking, and creativity in all who pass through its doors.
