Established in 2012, Affenfaust Galerie isn’t just a name, it’s a statement. “Monkey’s fist,” the English translation, refers to a knot, symbolizing the interwoven nature of art and culture. Affenfaust Galerie champions urban art in all its forms, collaborating with artists from Hamburg and across the globe. Here on Paul-Roosen-Straße, in a former supermarket, Affenfaust Galerie occupies a sprawling 1,000 square meters. This makes it Hamburg’s largest privately-owned gallery. The founders, Marcus Schild, Lycien David-Csery, and Frederik Schäter, envisioned a hub for emerging talent. Their annual Knotenpunkt festival, meaning “nodal point,” truly embodies this vision.
