Through strategic mergers and acquisitions, Jusco expanded its reach. In 2001, the company rebranded itself as AEON.
The name AEON has an interesting origin. It comes from the Koine Greek word meaning eternal. This name reflects the company’s ambition for enduring success.
In 2010, AEON consolidated its hypermarket brands like Jusco and Saty under the AEON name. By 2021, AEON had become the 17th largest retailer worldwide in terms of revenue. The Jusco name, originating from a kimono silk trader in 1758, carries a legacy of tradition. AEON operates stores across Japan and internationally. Its global presence extends to Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, and Thailand.
