Did you ever hear of a church restarting after a cell division? Right here, at the Adventgemeinde Waldfriede, that’s exactly what happened. The Adventgemeinde Waldfriede isn’t just any church. It’s a vibrant community, a place of spiritual growth, and a home for people of all ages. Located on the grounds of the Waldfriede Hospital, the church has a rich history intertwined with the hospital itself. The Adventgemeinde Waldfriede is part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. They strive to provide a welcoming environment where members can connect, learn, and support each other. In September 2024, the Adventgemeinde Waldfriede celebrated a significant milestone: a restart service. This marked the beginning of a new chapter following a year-long cell division process. This process resulted in the birth of a new Adventist community in southwest Berlin. The restart service took place in the chapel on the hospital grounds. About 70 members and visitors gathered under the beautiful late summer sky. The service focused on Psalm 37:5, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” This verse holds special meaning for the Adventgemeinde Waldfriede and the Waldfriede Hospital. It was chosen as a guiding principle by the founding members, including Dr. Louis Conradi, when the hospital was established in April 1920. Waltraud Rohleder, a descendant of one of the hospital’s first nurses, Carl Rohleder, spoke about the verse’s importance. She explained how it continues to resonate with the community today, especially during this restart. The restart also marked the arrival of a new pastor, Olaf Vogt. Coming from Quedlinburg, Pastor Vogt is a familiar face returning to Berlin. The congregation welcomed him with a symbolic bouquet. Each member contributed a flower or two, representing the diverse individuals who make up the whole community. Following the service, a potluck lunch provided an opportunity for fellowship and getting to know Pastor Vogt. This restart service at Adventgemeinde Waldfriede wasn’t just a new beginning. It was a reaffirmation of faith, community, and the promise of a shared future.
