“Did they really start with just 130 people?” That thought might cross your mind as you stand before Advent Lutheran Church. It’s hard to imagine, but this vibrant hub of faith started with a simple mission. Back in April 1962, the American Lutheran Church saw a need in northwest Houston. They wanted to establish a beacon of hope, a place where people could connect with their spirituality. That’s how Advent Lutheran Church was born. The very first service was held on September 9, 1962, with 130 souls gathered to worship. A month later, the congregation was formally established, laying the groundwork for the church you see today. Advent Lutheran Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the power of faith and community, a place where people from all walks of life have come together to share their love for Christ.
