The Admiralbrücke buzzes with life, especially as the sun begins to dip below the horizon. This wrought-iron bridge, the oldest spanning the Landwehr Canal, has seen Berlin transform around it. Built between 1880 and 1882 by Georg Pinkenburg, it replaced a simple wooden bascule bridge known as Badbrücke. Its current name, Admiralbrücke, comes from the Admiralstraße which runs across it. The bridge is more than just a crossing; it’s a gathering place, a stage, and a canvas for the city’s vibrant energy. The original wrought-iron railings, adorned with delicate leaf ornaments, still grace the bridge today. They have witnessed countless sunsets, conversations, and songs. These railings, along with the old gas lanterns, create an atmosphere of urban romance. The air fills with snippets of different languages as people gather on the cobblestones.
