“A century of goals and glory” echoed across the field here at Adlershofer BC 08 e.V.. It’s a phrase whispered by generations of fans, a testament to the enduring spirit of this Berlin institution. Adlershofer BC 08, nestled in the heart of Adlershof, has witnessed the ebb and flow of history, mirroring the city’s own triumphs and tribulations. Founded in 1908, Adlershofer BC 08 quickly established itself as a force to be reckoned with. Their red and black colors became synonymous with fierce competition and unwavering dedication. In the 1920s, the club basked in the glory of six consecutive Berlin championships for their A-junior team, a sign of their burgeoning talent. The men’s team reached the Oberliga, Berlin’s highest league, in 1928, drawing crowds of up to 5,000 to the Lohnauer Steig stadium. Even the legendary Hanne Sobek, a two-time German champion with Hertha BSC, coached the team in the 1931/32 season. The Nazi regime forced a merger, weakening the club and leading to relegation. But the Adlershofer spirit remained unbroken. After the war, they reorganized, rising through the ranks once more and reaching the DDR-Liga, East Germany’s second-highest league, in 1951/52. That same year, their B-junior team clinched the DDR championship, a victory celebrated with a jubilant homecoming at the Adlershof train station. The club navigated difficult political landscapes, even facing threats of expulsion for promoting women’s football, something frowned upon by East German officials at the time. Yet, they persisted. They continued to celebrate victories, like the 1962 Berlin championship, which propelled them back to the DDR-Liga. The reunification of Germany brought new challenges and opportunities. Adlershofer BC 08 rose to the occasion, climbing to the Verbandsliga Berlin, the highest Berlin league, in 1997. They held their ground for five years. The women’s team mirrored this success, becoming Berlin champions in 2004 and competing in the Regionalliga for four years. The club celebrated its centennial in 2008, a testament to its resilience and unwavering commitment to the beautiful game. Adlershofer BC 08 has seen it all: championship victories, forced mergers, political pressures, and relegations. Through it all, the club has remained a vital part of Berlin’s sporting landscape. Their home ground at Lohnauer Steig, with its 1,000 standing places, continues to echo with the cheers of dedicated fans. It is a place where history comes alive, a place where the spirit of Adlershofer BC 08 continues to inspire.
