Established in 2007 the Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department stands as a pillar of justice. Its modern building reflects its commitment to efficiency and transparency. But its roots run deeper. Long before its current form the Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department’s history is intertwined with the Emirate’s own growth.
In 1968 a pivotal moment arrived. The Law of Courts was issued. This established the Emirate’s judicial power. It divided the system into three circuits Abu Dhabi Al Ain and Al Dhafra. Each circuit had its own courts. Each court was presided over by two judges a Shari’a Judge for personal status cases and a Civil Judge for all other matters. This structure laid the foundation for the Department’s future expansion.
The Shari’a Judicial Department formed in 1974. It built upon this framework. His Eminence the late Ahmad Bin Abdul Aziz Al Mubarak played a crucial role. He served as the Chairman. Under his leadership the Department expanded. It included Shari’a Civil and Criminal Courts. These reported directly to the office of His Highness the President.
Over the years the Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department underwent significant changes. These were intended to modernize its processes and enhance its services. In 1994 His Excellency Sultan Bin Saeed Al Badi was appointed Chairman. Subsequent legislative changes further solidified its independent status. Law No 22 of 2006 amended Law No 1 of 1974. This created an independent Judicial Department reporting directly to the Ruler.
Today the Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department continues to evolve. It uses modern technology and innovative approaches. Its commitment remains steadfast to upholding justice and fairness for all. The Department’s digital services streamline legal processes. This makes them more accessible and efficient. It is a testament to the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s vision. His support for the Department laid the groundwork for its success. The Abu Dhabi Judiciary Department is not just a building. It represents a legacy of justice a commitment to fairness and a constant evolution to meet the needs of its community.
