Hidden amidst the industrial hum of Mussafah, the Abu Dhabi Art Hub pulsates with creative energy. Did this unexpected location surprise you? It was a deliberate choice by founder Ahmed Al Yafei. He envisioned a space where artists could live, create, and exhibit, a community fostering cross-cultural exchange. The Abu Dhabi Art Hub opened its doors in October 2012. Since then, it has become a vibrant hub for artists from across the globe. Al Yafei aimed to prepare the community for the arrival of the Louvre and Guggenheim, nurturing a deeper appreciation for art. The Abu Dhabi Art Hub hosts a unique “Art in Country” program. Each month, artists from a different nation are invited to reside at the Hub. They receive free accommodation, art supplies, and a driver, immersing themselves in the local culture for a month. In return, they contribute some of their created art to the Hub’s growing collection. This collection now boasts over 2,400 pieces. It has become one of the largest in the region. The Abu Dhabi Art Hub has expanded its reach beyond Mussafah. A second location opened in Liwa, hosting art festivals that explore the intersection of art with science, culture, and the environment. The Abu Dhabi Art Hub isn’t just a residency program. It features galleries, a cafe, a shop, rentable studios, and even the first private art museum in Abu Dhabi. It also operates the UAE Art Bank. This initiative rents and sells artwork to organizations, further promoting art within the community. From its industrial setting to its innovative programs, the Abu Dhabi Art Hub is a testament to the power of art to connect, inspire, and transform.
