Did you know that Abramson Science and Technology Charter School wasn’t always here? This spot holds a rich history. Before the school opened its doors it was home to the former Marion Abramson High School. Imagine the bustling hallways filled with students years ago.
Abramson Science and Technology Charter School opened in 2007. It began in temporary trailers on this very land. It was the first charter school run by the Pelican Educational Foundation. This foundation had ties to the Gulen Movement an interesting connection.
The school’s early years weren’t without challenges. In 2011 an investigation into alleged misconduct led to the state temporarily closing the school. The Recovery School District (RSD) stepped in to take over its operation. This ensured the school remained open for its students.
Despite the challenges Abramson excelled academically. The school specialized in science and math. Many students thrived and performed brilliantly at science fairs. Compared to the former Abramson High School the charter school achieved vastly improved results. It’s a testament to its unique approach.
The school’s success can partly be attributed to its dedicated staff. Abramson welcomed many Teach for America recruits. These passionate young teachers helped shape the school’s identity. The teachers were instrumental in creating the positive learning environment.
