Initially, Dr. Gabriel R. Mason led Abraham Lincoln High School. He was the principal for 25 years starting in 1930. In 1983, Dr. Jack Pollock reported high college attendance among graduates. Eight out of ten attended college or university.

Abraham Lincoln High School faced challenges in later years. By 2009, the graduation rate was 58%. SAT scores were below the New York State averages.

However Abraham Lincoln High School provides numerous extracurriculars. Students can join the Acting Club, Debate Team and Key Club. The school newspaper is called the Lincoln Log. The Virtual Enterprise program allows students to manage virtual businesses. The Veterinary Science program lets students work with live animals.

The school encourages real-world experience. 11th graders can participate in an internship program. They gain employment skills and professional advice.

Abraham Lincoln High School offers many sports. These include basketball, baseball and swimming. In 2013, a new fitness center was funded.

Abraham Lincoln High School has produced many notable alumni. Four Nobel Prize laureates graduated here. They are David Julius, Paul Berg, Jerome Karle and Arthur Kornberg. Other famous alumni include Marv Albert and Neil Diamond. Louis Gossett Jr. and Arthur Miller also walked these halls.

The student body at Abraham Lincoln High School is diverse. African American students make up the largest group. White, Hispanic and Asian American students also contribute.

Abraham Lincoln High School continues to evolve. It provides specialized programs like digital photography. The school also has veterinary sciences and computer science programs.
