Feel the G-force. That’s the Abismo for you. Right here at Madrid’s Parque de Atracciones.
Abismo isn’t just a rollercoaster. It’s a screaming testament to engineering and daredevilry. Opened in 2006 this intense ride is a Maurer Söhne Skyloop XT-450 model. It’s unique. Unlike other Skyloops Abismo boasts extra twists and turns. It’s a custom design. The original plan was apparently too big. It would have gone right through the park’s offices.
Picture this. You’re strapped into a seat. The train climbs a vertical lift. Then you’re upside down. For three seconds you dangle. Enjoy the panoramic view of Madrid. Adrenaline? It’s off the charts. Then the real fun starts. A corkscrew. A 105 km/h plunge. Immelmann turns. Banked curves. Camelback hills will make you feel weightless. It’s a small coaster. But boy is it intense.
One unique element is the inverted lift hill. It takes you up 49 meters. Then it flips you upside down before the big drop. It’s one of the tallest inverted lifts globally. The whole ride is 450 meters of pure exhilaration. The twelve-seater train also uses the lift hill as a brake. That makes for some interesting capacity challenges.
Abismo is a spectacle. Even if you don’t dare to ride many stop to watch. They watch the train climb. They listen to the screams of delight. It’s a thrilling sight. A testament to human courage. And a truly unforgettable experience for those brave enough to take the plunge. Abismo. Madrid’s own abyss of thrills.
