Originally known as Aba Teachers College, this institution has evolved significantly since its humble beginnings in 1938 as a simple rural normal school. Officially established by the State Council in 1978, Aba Teachers College underwent a name change in 1992 and finally achieved university status in April 2015, becoming Aba Teachers University. This transformation marks it as the sole undergraduate normal school serving the ethnic minorities of Sichuan Province. The university’s location is quite remarkable. Situated in a region declared a “post-disaster reconstruction best example” by the United Nations, and within the national 5A-level scenic spot of Wenchuan County, Aba Teachers University boasts a “garden-style campus.” Currently, the university offers a range of undergraduate programs, including Arts, Biology, Computer Science, Culturology, Education, History, IT, Management, Mathematics, Philology, Physical Education, and Physics. All programs are conducted in Chinese and follow a full-time study mode. Interestingly, the tuition fee for both international and domestic students is consistent across all programs, set at $2,173 per year. Beyond academics, Aba Teachers University demonstrates a commitment to cultural preservation and innovation. Its dance performance major stands out, recognized as a model program for inheriting and innovating national culture by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, and the National Civil Affairs Commission. This dedication has earned the university prestigious awards, including the first prize for outstanding achievements in Sichuan Province and the second prize for outstanding achievements at the Ministry of Education level. The university’s contribution to earthquake relief efforts has also earned it the honorable title of “Hero Collective for Earthquake Relief,” awarded by the Party Central Committee, the State Council, and the Central Military Commission.
