“Butterfly Wings,” a screen print by Janet Fish. It was gifted to the Detroit Institute of Arts by Norman and Susan Stewart in 1991. It is more than just art. The Detroit Institute of Arts is its home.

Janet Fish created Butterfly Wings in 1991. The artwork is a screen print. It uses color ink on wove paper. The image measures 18 by 24 inches. The sheet is 21 3/4 by 29 3/4 inches. Stewart & Stewart published it. Corey Stewart and Joe Keenan Norman Stewart printed it.

Janet Fish signed and dated the print. You can see her signature in pencil. It’s on the lower right. The inscription reads “Butterfly Wings III/VI P.P.” It is in pencil on the lower left. Drystamps appear on the lower right. They read “Stewart & Stewarts” and “Norman Stewart.”

Norman and Susan Stewart gifted the artwork. That was in 1991. Since then, it has been at the Detroit Institute of Arts. It enriches the museum’s collection.

The Detroit Institute of Arts acquired Edna Bel Boies Hopkins’ “Butterflies” around 1915. This piece complements Janet Fish’s work. It provides a different artistic perspective.

The “Flight of Butterflies” exhibit in Chicago shows a different approach to butterfly art. It uses outdoor sculptures to engage the community. This is different from the screen print we see here.
