In 1914, Enterprise Assembly affiliated with the United Association. It became the Enterprise Association of Steam, Hot Water Hydraulic, Sprinkler, Pneumatic Tube, Ice Machine and General Pipe Fitters of New York and Vicinity Local 638. That’s quite a mouthful.
A trade line agreement was drafted. It established jurisdiction between the Steamfitter and Plumber. This agreement is commonly referred to as the 1914 agreement.
Today, Steamfitters Local 638 has a wide reach. It maintains jurisdiction over all general pipe fitting in New York City. This includes all five boroughs and Long Island’s Nassau and Suffolk Counties. It is a combination local union. It represents both the Construction Branch and the Metal Trades Service Branch.
