Founded in 1954, the 51st Tsentralny Konstruktorsko-Tekhnologicheskiy Institut Sudoremonta has a rich history. Originally known as the Central Design and Technology Bureau (CKTB) of the Navy, it began as part of the Ministry of Shipbuilding Industry. This institute, the 51st Tsentralny Konstruktorsko-Tekhnologicheskiy Institut Sudoremonta, wasn’t always known by its current lengthy name. It started as bureau number 330, designated SKTB in 1959. Then, in 1980, this SKTB merged with CDB 26920 and became the 51st Central Design and Technology Institute of Ship Repair, or 51st Tsentralny Konstruktorsko-Tekhnologicheskiy Institut Sudoremonta. Initially, the 51st Tsentralny Konstruktorsko-Tekhnologicheskiy Institut Sudoremonta focused on repairing existing naval vessels. Over time, it evolved. The institute began developing its own ship designs and technologies. The 51st Tsentralny Konstruktorsko-Tekhnologicheskiy Institut Sudoremonta became a key player in modernizing the Soviet fleet. They designed around 1000 vessel types. In 2009, the institute transitioned to an Open Joint Stock Company (OJSC) structure. It was renamed OJSC “51 CKTIS”. By 2016, it became a Public Joint Stock Company or PJSC “51 CKTIS”. Today, the 51st Tsentralny Konstruktorsko-Tekhnologicheskiy Institut Sudoremonta continues this legacy of innovation. They specialize in shipbuilding technologies. They also do ship and vessel repair for various maritime sectors. The institute has developed and implemented over 400 project designs. More than 130 projects are actively in progress.
