The ancient stones whisper secrets. This is Hoamsan Mountain Fortress Site. Right here before you stands a testament to Korea’s rich past.

Hoamsan Mountain Fortress Site a peak-banding style fortress boasts a long diamond shape. It stretches from northeast to southwest. Built during the Three Kingdoms period likely in the late 6th or early 7th century it made brilliant use of the mountain’s natural defenses. Its location 325 meters above sea level offered unparalleled strategic advantage. The fortress’s impressive circumference measures approximately 1547 meters. Its area covers a substantial 69689 square meters.

Imagine the soldiers patrolling the walls. They watch the valley below. They guard against invaders. Picture them during a siege. They brace against relentless attacks. The fortress withstood the test of time. Fragments of its walls remain. These are silent witnesses to centuries of history.

Archaeological digs unearthed fascinating relics. These include two wells and four building sites. A bronze spoon bears an inscription. The inscription “ingbeollaeryeokjinaemi” reveals the year of its creation. It offers a glimpse into daily life within the fortress. A Seoksusang a stone dog statue was also discovered. This suggests a connection to a Joseon Dynasty legend. The legend says a dog saved Seoul from a devastating fire.

Another intriguing find is a rock engraved with the Chinese characters “seokguji”. This rock was probably related to the Seoksusang statue. The pond may have played a significant role in the fortress’s daily life. The fortress remained functional during the Unified Silla Period. Vestiges of the walls still stand along a 300 meter section of the mountain’s peak.

Hoamsan Mountain Fortress Site isn’t just a historical site. It’s a living link to Korea’s past. It offers a window into the lives of those who built and defended it. The site’s historical significance is undeniable. Its cultural importance should not be overlooked. It reminds us of the strength and resilience of past generations. They skillfully adapted their environment to create a formidable defensive structure.

This is more than just stones and earth. It is a story waiting to be told. It is a story waiting to be rediscovered. This is Hoamsan Mountain Fortress Site. A place where history whispers through the ages.
