Hanul Presbyterian Church began its journey in 1966 as Namsan First Church. It found its home in Hoehyeon-dong, Seoul. In 1969, Reverend Won Seok Oh became the leading figure of the church. Under his guidance, Hanul Presbyterian Church transitioned to become a branch of the Presbyterian Church in Korea. In 1970, the church adopted the name Seoul Jungang Church. It continued to grow, becoming a significant presence in the community.
In 1973, the church moved to a new building in Sinsa-dong and held a dedication ceremony. This marked a new chapter in its history. The church underwent another relocation in 1985, moving from Sinsa-dong to Daeseongjeon. A grand dedication ceremony was held in 1986 to commemorate its 20th anniversary. Reverend Oh celebrated 31 years of dedicated service. He had been instrumental in the church’s growth and development.
The church has continued to evolve, undertaking renovations and expansions. In 1999, it celebrated the inauguration of Reverend Oh and Reverend Young-soo Oh, marking a significant transition of leadership. In 2006, the church celebrated its 40th anniversary. It also honored Reverend Oh’s contributions. The church transitioned leadership again, appointing Reverend Young-soo Oh and Reverend Jin-hong Kim as the new leaders. In 2007, it officially changed its name to Hanul Presbyterian Church. It moved to Wondae Vision Church. Further developments included the establishment of the Hanul Nara Annex in 2011, the Ansan New Town Church in 2012, and the Gangbuk New Town Church in 2015, demonstrating its ongoing mission to expand its reach and serve the community. Hanul Presbyterian Church continues to thrive as a vital part of Seoul’s religious landscape. It provides spiritual guidance and support to its members. It fosters a sense of community. It carries forward a legacy of faith and service.
