Founded by Chang-Gul Cho, the visionary behind Hanssem, Taejae University is a relatively new institution. Taejae University officially opened its doors in September 2023. This makes it the first four-year cyber university to be established in South Korea in over a decade. Located in Seoul, Taejae University offers a unique educational experience. Its founder, Chang-Gul Cho, aimed to create a premier institution for innovative learning. He envisioned a university that would nurture leaders for the 21st century. Taejae University’s first president, Jaeho Yeom, formerly the president of Korea University, shares this vision. The university’s focus is on fostering critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and collaboration. Diversity and empathy are central to its values. Taejae University’s curriculum emphasizes six key competencies. These are woven throughout the Innovation Foundations courses, major courses, and practical field experiences. All freshmen at Taejae University begin their journey in the School of Innovation Foundations. This foundational year allows students to explore different fields. In their second year, they choose from four distinct majors: Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Business Innovation. Students also have the option to design their own academic program, tailoring their education to their specific interests and goals. A unique aspect of Taejae University is its Global Engagement Program (GEP). All students participate in this program, which offers residential experiences at campuses in five countries: South Korea, the US, China, Russia, and Japan. The GEP aims to deepen students’ understanding of diverse cultures and enhance their problem-solving skills. Taejae University operates a hybrid campus, combining online learning with real-world experiences. This innovative approach allows students to connect with faculty and peers globally through a metaverse campus. This digital space facilitates seamless collaboration and discussion. Taejae University is dedicated to supporting its students’ success, both academically and personally.
