“A church where love flourishes”. That’s the motto of Yeongbok Church. We stand before a building that embodies faith and community in Seoul.

Yeongbok Church has a rich history. It started in 1971 in Singil-dong. The church began in a small 15-pyeong space at 420-22 Singil-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. This translates to about 530 square feet on the second floor of a building.

Initially, the church was prepared by the Korea Evangelical Association. Reverends such as Seo Dong-ik, Kang Sa-seon, Hwang Jeong-sim, and Han Je-ho laid the foundation.

In 1977, Pastor Han Tae-rang took over. Under his leadership, Yeongbok Church has grown steadily to become what it is today. The church emphasizes community. It is located in an apartment complex in Junggye-dong. The church is designed to be accessible to local residents. Its architecture doesn’t overwhelm the neighborhood.

Yeongbok Church uniquely uses its space. The second floor houses a dining area and cafe. On Sundays, it functions as a dining hall. During the week, it opens to the community. Anyone can come in for refreshment and fellowship.

The current address of Yeongbok Church is 82 Hangeul Bi Seok-ro 5-gil, Nowon-gu, Seoul. Its main purpose is religious. The building has one basement level and five floors above ground. The church spans a total area of 2029.04 square meters.

Kim Yong-soo captured the church’s architecture in photographs.

Yeo Hyun-gu is the current pastor. Yeongbok Church belongs to the Yejang Hapdong denomination. You can contact the church at 02-848-1062. Or visit their website to learn more.

Yeongbok Church offers a place of worship. But it is also a community hub. It fosters connections among residents of Seoul. As we continue our tour, remember the story of Yeongbok Church. Its commitment to faith and community makes it a special place in Seoul.
