Two communities, Ihori and Kumsungri, blossomed spontaneously from the seeds of belief planted by those touched by the Gospel’s power.
A young man named Kim Jae-won, cured miraculously at a missionary hospital in Seoul, became instrumental in establishing the Ihori faith community. He shared his newfound faith with his people, nurturing a small but devoted following. Then there’s the story of Cho Bong-ho, who found his calling at Kyungshin School, a beacon of modern education and Christian values. He returned to his hometown, Geumseong-ri, after his father fell ill and in that time of personal turmoil, planted the seeds for what would become the Kumsungri Community.
These communities, born from the dedication of those touched by the love of Christ, yearned for guidance, for a shepherd to guide their flock. In response, the Missionary Society sent Lee Ki-pung, one of Korea’s first Presbyterian pastors, to this island.
