Nestled in the heart of Seoul’s Sujeong District, we find the Yangji-dong Administrative Welfare Center. It’s more than just a building. It’s a vital hub for the local community, serving as the town hall for Yangji-dong. Yangji-dong’s story intertwines with the broader history of Seoul. Originally, the area was part of Gwangju County. Changes in administrative boundaries in 1914 saw it become part of Gwangju-gun, which encompassed parts of present-day Uijeongbu, Guri, Namyangju, Dongducheon, and even sections of Seoul. In 1971, the Gwangju County office was located in central Uijeongbu. The area underwent further division in 1973, leading to the establishment of Eunpyeong-dong. This area, once known as “Arirang Hill,” eventually became Yangji-dong. Further restructuring in 1979 divided Eunpyeong-dong into Eunpyeong 1 and 2-dong. Then, in 1988, Eunpyeong 2-dong was further split into Eunpyeong 2 and 3-dong. Finally, on May 1, 1989, with the expansion of Seoul, Eunpyeong 3-dong was officially designated as Yangji-dong and incorporated into the city. Today, the Yangji-dong Administrative Welfare Center stands as a testament to this rich history. The center plays a key role in local governance. It is responsible for administrative tasks, social services, and community development. It’s a place where residents can access essential services, connect with their neighbors, and participate in local initiatives. The Yangji-dong Administrative Welfare Center represents the heart of this vibrant community, reflecting its past and shaping its future.
