Here stands the Sujin 1-dong Community Service Center. It is more than just a building. It is a place of history and community.

Let’s delve into the story of this place. The name “Sujin” has royal roots. It dates back to the Joseon Dynasty. King Sejong’s first son, Grand Prince Pyeongwon, passed away. His burial site was located south of Yeongjangsan Mountain. Sujin Palace was built to manage the tomb. The name “Sujin” originated from this palace.

Over time, the area evolved. It was called Gongmal, Gungjeon, Sujin-dong, and Sujin-ri. Eventually, it became Sujin-dong as Seongnam City grew.

In the Joseon era, this area was part of Gwangju-gun, Segoemyeon. In 1914, during administrative reorganization, several villages were combined. These villages included Saeugae, Saeteo, Batteo, Anmal, and Sinjap. The new entity was named Sujin-ri. It was incorporated into Jungbu-myeon.

Sujin-dong is divided into two parts today. In 1976, Sujin-dong was split along Jeil-ro. The eastern part became Sujin 1-dong. The western part became Sujin 2-dong. Sujin 1-dong is east of Jeil-ro.

As of September 30, 2023, Sujin-dong has a population of 26,934. Sujin 1-dong, where we stand, has 11,671 residents. This area covers 0.39 square kilometers. Sujin 1-dong Community Service Center is vital to these residents. It is located in the eastern part of the original Sujin-dong. It continues to serve and support the community.
