“Outstanding school building” is what they called it back then. We are standing before Sudukgwan. It is the main building of Korea University. Kim Seong-su, who ran Boseong College, built it. This college was Korea University’s predecessor.

Construction began in 1933. It concluded in 1934. Park Dong-jin designed Sudukgwan. It is a three-story building. A six-story central tower rises impressively. Granite is the primary construction material. The building features a symmetrical arrangement. Its architectural style is Gothic.

The building’s layout is H-shaped. A wide hall sits at its center. Look closely at the entrance. You will see tiger images carved into the two stone pillars. These tigers symbolize the university’s spirit. Now, turn to the rear door. Find the two stone pillars there. Notice the rose of Sharon carvings. It is another meaningful detail.

Sudukgwan was considered exceptional for its time. Its interior and exterior decorations are splendid. It stood apart from other school buildings of that era. It represents Korea University’s rich history.

From ancient walls to modern theme parks, Seoul has it all. It has the world’s fastest internet. It is a tech capital. Seoul is a city of festivals. Two sites in Seoul are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Seoul is an amazing place to live and visit.
