“Providing administrative services to local residents is our mission.” Here we are at Sugung-dong Community Service Center. It is more than just a town hall. It is a place deeply rooted in the history and community of Guro District.

Sugung-dong itself is a fascinating area. Its name is a blend of Onsu-dong’s “Su” meaning water and Gung-dong’s “Gung” meaning palace. Together, they form Sugung. This name reflects the area’s unique character. Sugung-dong serves as a gateway to the southwest of Guro. It borders Bucheon and Yangcheon-gu. It oversees the two dongs of Gung-dong and Onsu-dong.

The Sugung-dong Community Service Center’s story began long ago. In 1963, it started as Sugung-dong Office under Yeongdeungpo-gu. It handled administrative affairs for Onsu-dong and Gung-dong. Over time, the administrative structure evolved. In 1970, the Sugung-dong Office closed. Oryu-dong Office then took over administrative duties for Onsu-dong and Gung-dong.

A significant change occurred in 1988. Sugung-dong was newly established to administer Onsu-dong and Gung-dong. The Sugung-dong Office reopened its doors. In 2007, it transformed into the Sugung-dong Community Service Center we see today.

This center plays a vital role in the community. It manages the Gung-dong Reservoir Ecological Park. This park is located at 45 Gung-dong. It also maintains senior citizen facilities and promotes educational initiatives. These include the school environmental improvement project at three schools.

Today, the Sugung-dong Community Service Center serves Gung-dong and Onsu-dong. As of 2016, a dedicated team of eleven staff members works here. They serve over 25000 residents.

Before you stands the Sugung-dong Community Service Center. It is a place where history and community intertwine. Take a moment to appreciate the center’s role in shaping the vibrant neighborhood around it.
