Sangdo Church began with a dedicated evangelist Lee Yong-sun. He and elders Kang Il-seon founded the church. The church started humbly in Sangdo 1-dong offering services in a private home.

Throughout its history Sangdo Church has been led by dedicated pastors. They are also called superintendent evangelists. These leaders include Kim Tae-Woon and Jung Kyu-Seok. They also include Yoon Sang-Hyun and Jang Il-Hyung. Moon Yi-Ho and Yim Sa-Soon also contributed. Hwang Dae-Shik and Park Kwon-Bae shaped the church. Since 2018 Park Seong-Ho has served. Each leader has brought unique vision. They have guided Sangdo Church through various eras.
