Here at Sahmyook University, education transforms individuals. It transforms the world. Welcome.

Sahmyook University stands as a testament to faith and progress. It began in 1906. American Seventh-day Adventist missionaries founded it. They sought to improve education for church workers. This small school was named Euimyung College.

Let’s step back in time. Imagine Korea under Japanese imperialism. Missionaries faced a dilemma. The Japanese rulers enforced Shinto worship. Managing the school system became impossible. Euimyung College closed its doors.

But hope remained. In 1945 Korea gained independence. The school moved to Seoul. It joined the church headquarters. This move finished in 1949.

The Korean War erupted in 1950. The school closed again. Seoul was retaken in 1951. The school relocated to its current site. It was in Gongdeok, Yangjoo. The area was later renamed Seoul. The school was renamed Sahmyook College. James Lee became the first president.

Sahmyook University has a rigorous application process. Each January over 10000 students apply. Only about 10 percent are accepted. That is around 1242 students. Most are not Adventist. Non-Adventists have a higher success rate. About 200 Adventist students are accepted annually. This is about one in six applicants.

Did you know Sahmyook University has many research institutes? They include the Geoscience Research Institute. There is also the Korean Institute for HIV AIDS Prevention.

Sahmyook University encourages study abroad programs. Students can study overseas. They complete graduation requirements. Affiliations exist in many countries. These include Puerto Rico and South Africa. You can study in Mexico and England too.

Sahmyook University boasts notable alumni. Jin Goo is a famous actor. Lee Seung-ryul is a soccer player.

Kim Il Mok is the current president. Ko Wonbae is a professor of Chemistry. Han Sangkyung manages The Garden of Morning Calm. He is a Horticulture professor too.

Sahmyook University has grown. It offers diverse programs. The university upholds its founding values. These values are prudence, animus, and corpus corporis. Mind, spirit, and body are important here.

Sahmyook University remains a beacon of Christian education. It adapts to a changing world. It contributes to South Korea. It fosters global connections. Its history reflects resilience. Its future promises continued growth.
