Dongshin Presbyterian Church. A small beacon of faith amidst the sprawling metropolis of Seoul. Have you ever considered the power of division? How something seemingly small can ripple outwards, creating entirely new entities? That’s the story of Dongshin Presbyterian Church. It began as a disagreement, a difference of opinion within the larger Presbyterian Church in Korea (DokNoHoe) in 1972. Two factions, led by Kim Chang-Gil and Chung Dae-Shin, found themselves at odds. The group following Chung Dae-Shin, initially burgeoning, experienced its own internal fractures, leading to the formation of several smaller denominations. Dongshin Presbyterian Church emerged from this fragmentation, finding its home primarily in and around Seoul. It’s a relatively small community, numbering around 5,264 members and 56 congregations in 2004. Their beliefs are grounded in traditional Christian doctrine, adhering to the Apostles’ Creed and the Westminster Confession. Dongshin Presbyterian Church stands as a testament to the evolving nature of faith, a reminder that even division can give birth to new expressions of belief.
