Did you know Daeshin Church’s roots stretch back to 1948? That’s when the DaeHan Seminary was founded. This isn’t just any church. Daeshin Church is a significant part of South Korea’s Presbyterian history. It’s a story of growth division and ultimately a strong enduring faith.

The seminary started evening courses to train ministry candidates. Rev Kim Chi-sun Pastor Kim Su-do and Rev Yun Phil-sung led these early efforts. They laid the groundwork for what Daeshin Church would become. This wasn’t a smooth journey. In 1960 the HapDong and TongHap denominations split. This created tension that affected the seminary.

Rev Kim Chi-sun a key figure founded the Bible Presbyterian Church in Korea. However conflicts arose between the seminary and this new church. In 1968 he withdrew from the ICCC. He ran the Daeshin Seminary independently. He attempted to have his son appointed director. This sparked opposition from Professor Choi Soon-jik. Choi with his followers formed the HapDongJinRi denomination. Huh Kwang-jae became a leading figure in this new group.

In 1972 Kim Chi-sun and his son left the denomination. The Daeshin group reformed. They adopted the Declaration of the Church in 1974. They also amended their constitution in 1976. They joined the Council of Presbyterian Churches in Korea in 1980. They further expanded their connections by joining the World Alliance of Reformed Churches in 1992.

Daeshin Church has grown remarkably. It boasts 140000 members across 1170 congregations. It’s organized into 30 Presbyteries and a General Assembly. The church follows the Apostles’ Creed and the Westminster Confession. It’s now a member of the World Communion of Reformed Churches. The Daeshin Church you see before you is the culmination of this remarkable history. It’s a testament to faith perseverance and a vision that continues to grow. It’s more than just a building. It’s a living breathing community of faith.
