This hall was created to address the community’s needs. The Gwanak Culture Center and Library opened in 2002. It offered various cultural programs. However, its facilities became crowded. The local residents’ needs were not being fully met. The construction of the Memorial Hall expanded the available space. It allowed for more diverse services. These services cater to children, young adults and multicultural families.
The Memorial Hall houses several important facilities. The Youth Counseling Center offers guidance and support to young people. Job Oasis provides job-related information and counseling. The Dream Tree Children’s Library is a unique space. It is designed like a kids’ cafe. It encourages children to read and play. The Multicultural Support Center supports multicultural families. What makes this hall special? The story behind its name. Kim Sam-Soon was a thrifty individual. He lived a frugal life. He donated 3 billion won to make this hall possible. In honor of his contribution, the hall was named Nampha Kim Sam-Soon Cultural Rehabilitation Memorial Hall. “Nampha” was Kim Sam-Soon’s pen name.
