“Established before 1405” a whisper echoes through the ancient stones of Geumseonsa. We stand before a testament to time a Buddhist temple nestled in Seoul’s Bukhansan National Park. This is Geumseonsa.

Geumseonsa is a temple of the Jogye Order. It offers a serene escape from the city. The temple resides in the Jongno District. It is located at 196-1 Gugi-dong.

Imagine monks walking these paths centuries ago. Picture them seeking enlightenment within these very walls. Geumseonsa’s history stretches back over 600 years. It’s a place where tradition and spirituality intertwine.

Bukhansan embraces Geumseonsa. The temple sits just behind Cheong Wa Dae. That’s the Blue House. Gyeongbokgung Palace is nearby too.

As you approach Geumseonsa, you’ll find Banyajeon Hall. Buddhist services take place here. A 200-year-old pine tree stands tall adding to the temple’s venerable aura.

A staircase beckons you upward. It has 108 steps. These lead to Daejeokgwangjeon Hall. This is the temple’s main area. To your right, Samseonggak House awaits discovery.

Listen to the clear water flowing down from the mountain. Hongyegyo Bridge gracefully spans this stream.

Monk Beopan added Mitajeon Hall and Yeonhwadang Hall in 2004. Jeokmukdang Hall showcases traditional construction techniques.

Geumseonsa’s essence lies in its pursuit of spiritual refinement. The aim is to cultivate right religious views. Also the temple aims at right conduct and right practice.

Geumseonsa seeks to establish correct religious perspectives. It wants to promote true cultivation and practical application. It embodies the interconnectedness of mind body and spirit.

Geumseonsa offers various programs. These include Seungryeo Yeonsu education. It also has a Geumgang bookstore.
