Do you know how the name of this place came to be? This is the Gwarim-dong Haengjeong Welfare Center. It is a vital hub in Siheung, Gyeonggi-do.

Gwarim-dong is northeast of Siheung’s center. It occupies 5.6% of the city’s total area at 7.65 square kilometers. Gwarim-dong borders Gwangmyeong City to the east. It also borders Maehwa-dong to the south. Eunhaeng-dong lies to the west. Daeya-dong is to the northwest.

Historically, Gwarim-dong was part of Incheon-bu during the Joseon Dynasty. It included Ili, Iri and Samri. In 1914, it became Gwarim-ri under Sorae-myeon. This was part of Bucheon-gun. By 1973, Sorae-myeon was incorporated into Siheung-gun. Gwarim-ri then became part of Siheung-gun. In 1980, Sorae-myeon became Sorae-eup. Gwarim-ri then became Gwarim-dong. Later, it became Gwarim-dong of Siheung City.

Initially, the first name for Gwarim-dong was Jungrim. The branch office was in Jungrim Village. Due to residents’ requests, it was renamed Gwarim-dong. This happened under Siheung City Ordinance No. 291.

The name Gwarim comes from combining parts of two village names. It combines ‘Gwa’ from Mogwa-dong. It also combines ‘Rim’ from Jungrim. This is how Gwarim-dong got its unique name.

The Gwarim-dong Haengjeong Welfare Center plays a key role. It supports resident autonomy with various programs. These include calligraphy classes and dance programs. You can reach here by taking bus number 26, 39, or 530. Get off at Gwarim-dong Haengjeong Welfare Center stop. It is just a short walk away. The phone number is 031-310-4662.
