Can a school have a motto? Gaewon Middle School does. It aims to be a “happy school, a school everyone attends, and a beautiful school”. Gaewon Middle School sits in Gaepo-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. It first opened its doors in March 1985. The school has seen many changes over the years. Originally, it was established on December 8, 1984. The first principal, Kim Sun-do, took the helm on March 1, 1985. The very first students, fifteen classes in all, entered on March 5th. The official opening ceremony took place just a few weeks later on April 26, 1985. The school expanded in October 2010 with a newly built library and art room. Most recently, in September 2022, the eleventh principal, Jeong Jae-mi, began their tenure. The school’s motto speaks to its educational philosophy. It emphasizes well-rounded development. Students are encouraged to pursue academic excellence, explore their artistic talents, and become engaged citizens. Gaewon Middle School strives to be a nurturing environment where students learn and grow. The school continuously develops its curriculum to meet the needs of its diverse student body. It provides various extracurricular activities to enrich student life. It fosters a strong sense of community among students, teachers, and parents. The school has a capacity for approximately 700 students. It currently serves around this number, distributed across the three grade levels.
