Let me tell you about the history of this special place. The exact year of establishment for \u9808\u4f50\u4e4b\u7537\u5c0a Shrine remains a mystery. But its origins are linked to a significant historical figure. That figure is Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
Hideyoshi began construction of Osaka Castle in 1580. It was during this time that \u9808\u4f50\u4e4b\u7537\u5c0a Shrine came to be. The location was considered the “ghost gate” of Osaka Castle. So Hideyoshi dedicated the shrine to protect the castle from evil spirits. Bishamonten and Gozu Tenno were enshrined here for that purpose.
\u9808\u4f50\u4e4b\u7537\u5c0a Shrine has faced adversity. A typhoon in the Genroku era damaged the shrine. A major flood in 1885 caused it to wash away. Yet it was rebuilt in 1888. The current shrine was rebuilt in 1977.
The main deity enshrined here is Susanoo-no-Mikoto. He is known by many names. He has many faces. Susanoo-no-Mikoto is the brother of Amaterasu Omikami. She is the highest of the Shinto gods. He is known as a brave warrior. He defeated Yamata no Orochi. He is also a god of compassion. He is even considered a god of poetry.
This shrine is also known as Sekime Shrine. The shrine’s sign reads “Sekime Shrine.” The torii gate displays the name \u9808\u4f50\u4e4b\u7537\u5c0a.
\u9808\u4f50\u4e4b\u7537\u5c0a Shrine hosts summer and autumn festivals. The summer festival is held on July 21st and 22nd. The autumn festival is held on October 21st and 22nd.
Long ago the area around \u9808\u4f50\u4e4b\u7537\u5c0a Shrine was called Sekime. It acted as a checkpoint on the road to Osaka Castle. The name Sekime comes from this.
The shrine is located in what is now Joto Ward. The address is currently Ikusei. This name comes from Ikusei Elementary School.
