Originally named Kyoto Nishikyogoku Athletic Stadium, today we stand before Takebishi Stadium Kyoto. This multi-purpose stadium has witnessed decades of sporting history. It stands as a testament to Kyoto’s enduring passion for athletics.

Opened in 1942, Takebishi Stadium Kyoto has a rich history. It was a key venue for sports in Kyoto. The stadium even hosted a football match during the 1964 Summer Olympics. Romania played against Ghana on this very field.

For many years, Takebishi Stadium Kyoto was home to Kyoto Sanga FC. This J.League club played its home matches here until 2019. Imagine the roar of the crowds echoing through these stands. Feel the excitement of the games that unfolded on the natural grass.

In 2019, the stadium adopted the name Takebishi Stadium Kyoto. This name will remain until July 2029. Takebishi is the name of a company that secured the naming rights.

Getting here is quite easy. From Kyoto Station, take the Hankyu Kyoto Line to Nishikyogoku Station. The stadium is a short walk from there. Alternatively, you can take Kyoto City Bus No. 73. Get off at Nishikyogoku Undo Koen-mae.

Takebishi Stadium Kyoto has a capacity of over 20,000. While primarily used for track and field events, it also accommodates soccer and rugby. Due to the track, some seats offer a better view than others for soccer. The best seats for watching fast-paced sports are those further from the field.

Although Kyoto Sanga FC has moved to a new stadium, Takebishi Stadium Kyoto remains an important athletic venue. It is part of the Nishikyogoku Sports Park. The park includes a baseball field and other facilities.

So, as we conclude our visit to Takebishi Stadium Kyoto, consider its legacy. Think of the athletes who competed here. Picture the fans cheering them on. This stadium embodies Kyoto’s commitment to sports and community.
