“Whampoa Military Academy of the Seismological Community”. That’s quite a nickname isn’t it? It perfectly describes the Institute of Disaster Prevention IDP. This is where we are right now.
IDP is China’s only higher education institute focused on disaster prevention. It is focused on reduction and relief. Established in 1975 the Institute of Disaster Prevention enrolls students from all over China. More than 8600 full-time students are studying here.
Specializing in disaster prevention and reduction IDP meets emergency management needs. It also addresses economic and social development needs. IDP offers undergraduate postgraduate and adult education. Vocational training programs are also available.
The Institute of Disaster Prevention provides disaster-related undergraduate degrees. These programs cover science engineering management literature and economics. There are central programs like geophysics geology and civil engineering. Other programs include emergency technology and management.
Supporting programs include engineering management and computer science. They also include data science and public utilities management. Extended programs feature finance accounting and Chinese language.

As a key education base IDP has produced nearly 40000 graduates. Graduates are recognized for strong knowledge and responsibility. Many have won science and technology awards. Currently 70% of monitoring staff are IDP graduates. Also 80% of seismic station leaders are alumni.
