Nagase Christ Church’s story began in 1955. North American missionaries started evangelizing. They held campground meetings in the Nagase area. One year later, David Balzer, a missionary from Canada, used his house as a church.

In 1960, a significant milestone was reached. Under Miss Ruth Wiens, the church building was founded. This provided a dedicated space for worship and community gatherings.

Many pastors have led Nagase Christ Church. Rev. Yoshiyuki Sato and Missionary Harry Friesen were among them. Rev. Atsushi Tokumoto oversaw the building’s expansion to a second floor. Later pastors include Rev. Koji Nakamura and Rev. Takehiko Yamashita. Rev. Yoshio Fujii is the current pastor.

For over 60 years, Nagase Christ Church has thrived. It has received blessings in the Nagase area. The church is part of the Japan Mennonite Brethren Churches. These churches span from Yamaguchi Prefecture in the west to Kanagawa Prefecture in the east. Each church has its own unique character.
