Ever wonder about the story behind a church’s humble beginnings? The story of Nagaokakyo Church, UCCJ is quite inspiring. It stands as a testament to faith and community.
Nagaokakyo Church started as a mission branch of Kyoto Aoi Church. This happened on October 27 1974. It was located in the Umegaoka area of Nagaokakyo City. This endeavor was born from the dedicated prayers of Kyoto Aoi Church members.
Interestingly the church had no members for its first six months. Then six members from Kyoto Aoi Church joined on April 6 1975. This marked a significant step forward. The church grew through house meetings. Many sisters and brothers from the Kyoto District of UCCJ helped. They also sought cooperation from local Christians.
In June 1979 Nagaokakyo Church became independent. It was now self-supporting. By April 1981 it was legally registered as a religious organization. A member donated land allowing the church to move in 1982. It has been at that address ever since.
About 25 people attend the Lord’s Day worship each week. Many visitors add new energy. Adorable kids bring joy.
Nagaokakyo Church wants to use its talents well. They see themselves as part of Jesus Christ’s body. The church serves God and the community. They run Mabunekan Library monthly. This provides books and games for kids. The church also offers its spaces to the broader community.
The worship hall is on the second floor. To ensure accessibility Nagaokakyo Church installed a stair-lift. It was called Garaventa. In 2011 a long-awaited elevator was installed. This made the chapel much more accessible. It especially helped the elderly and those with physical challenges.
Each member of Nagaokakyo Church is aware of their weaknesses. They believe God invited them for a reason. They strive for mission and evangelism. They try to live by Jesus Christ’s teachings. They hope to follow his path.
