铁坨山A点/任铁生失踪处 Person serves as a somber reminder of a baffling disappearance. It is a place shrouded in mystery and speculation.

Ren Tiansheng was no ordinary man. He was a 61-year-old geography teacher from Beijing. He had 30 years of mountain climbing experience. On September 30 2008 Ren embarked on a solo trip. His destination was Miaofeng Mountain. He told his family he would be back that night. But Ren Tiansheng never returned.

This disappearance sparked a massive search. Over 20 rescue workers braved rain to scour the mountains. They found a shoe print matching Ren’s near Chafang Village. The print pointed away from the village. It led toward Zhangjia Mountain. Locals said that mountain path was treacherous. Nobody had used it for years.

The search team discovered more clues at 铁坨山A点. They found footprints and paper markers. A small search party went to Xiaodianzi Village. The village was deserted. But they met former residents who spoke of a hunter living in the mountains. The hunter’s home was locked and appeared empty.

On October 9, rescuers found a note. It was from Ren Tiansheng. He wrote that he was lost. Following this clue the search continued. Then came a significant discovery. Near 铁坨山, a test paper was found. The back had a message from Ren. He stated he climbed 铁坨山 on September 30 and got lost. He spent the night there. On October 1 he headed toward Shizidao Village. He left the message just in case. The note ended with “Love to everyone who passes by. Ren Tiansheng.”

These clues fueled hope. But Ren remained missing. Search teams found two sets of remains. Neither was Ren Tiansheng. They found children’s clothing. The area near the camp had a foul odor. The hunter returned to his mountain home. He reported nothing unusual. The search was eventually called off.
