Built in 1957 by volunteer labor, the Tongzhou District Stadium has been a cornerstone of the community for decades. Here at Tongzhou District Stadium, we’re not just standing on a sports field. We’re standing on the echoes of countless victories, defeats, and community gatherings. Originally, this site housed simpler facilities. It became inadequate over time, unable to meet the growing needs of Tongzhou residents. Recognizing the need for a modern sports center, the government launched a major renovation project.

The upgraded Tongzhou District Stadium is much more than its predecessor. It now includes a sports hall, swimming pool, a national fitness center, an ice rink, and an outdoor sports field. This ambitious project, slated for completion in the summer of 2025, represents a significant investment in the well-being of the community. The new sports hall will feature 12 standard badminton courts, convertible to two basketball courts, and seating for 3000 spectators, with over 1800 active seats. Beneath the sports hall, a state-of-the-art swimming pool with eight 50-meter lanes and a separate training pool will provide a comfortable environment for both professional training and leisure swimming.

This project also addressed a crucial need for the community: parking. With the addition of a 1000-space underground parking garage, the Tongzhou District Stadium is now much more accessible. This is a huge boon for residents of the surrounding older neighborhoods, who have long struggled with parking shortages. The stadium also carefully incorporates sustainable design features. Solar panels on the roof will contribute to hot water generation. A rainwater harvesting system will help irrigate green spaces, reducing water consumption and improving drainage.

The Tongzhou District Stadium stands as a testament to the district’s commitment to its residents. It’s a place where athletes train, families play, and the community comes together. This is more than just a sports center. It’s a vibrant hub of activity, reflecting the dynamism and growth of Tongzhou.
